Pricing & Margins
Calculators for setting and checking prices — margin, markup, discounts, sales tax, and freelance rates.
What to expect from pricing & margins tools
Pricing decisions go wrong when the numbers are mixed up, most often markup and margin. A product with a 100% markup has only a 50% margin, so a target written in one and priced in the other leaves money on the table. The tools in this group keep each calculation separate and show the matching figure next to it.
Start with the question you are asking. If you have a cost and want a price, use the markup calculator. If you have a price and want to know whether it is enough, use the profit margin calculator. The discount and sales tax tools handle what happens at the till, and the freelance rate calculator works out an hourly rate from the income you need.

Frequently asked questions
Q.Which pricing tool should I start with?
The Profit Margin Calculator if you're checking an existing price, or the Markup Calculator if you're setting a new one from cost. Most pricing decisions only need one of the two.
Q.Do these tools account for payment processing fees?
Not automatically — build the fee into the cost figure you enter (as a dollar amount or percentage of price) if you want it reflected in the result.
